Eccentric Musical Instrument Pick of the Month!

MODEL DESIGN BY F. A. PORSCHE
The new Bösendorfer Porsche grand piano, which has been developed in close cooperation with the internationally reputed companies
Porsche Design and Bösendorfer, represents a novel contemporary approach to piano design. In keeping with Bösendorfer's motto - cherish traditions, transcend limits - this model incorporates ground-breaking new design features that will have a lasting impact on piano design development. The combination of silvery shining aluminum and dark-grey metallic lacquer surfaces adds to the new model's unique appeal. The new Bösendorfer grand piano designed by F.A. Porsche Design is the latest addition to a series of extraordinary designer grands that began as early as in the 19th century and has brought forth superb and precious instruments.

The simple shape of the lyre, which resembles a forth leg, is of equally serene elegance, combining form and function in a masterly fashion.

The cast aluminium legs are inserted flush into the lateral rim, continuing the basic design concept.

The hinged front portion of the lid has been replaced by the front cross-cover, into which a movable, fold-out music desk has been inserted. The sound volume can be adjusted by means of two extruded aluminum section sliders, which are placed on either side of the music desk. The music shelf is also made of aluminum.

While the body of the instrument has maintained its traditional curved form, the projecting lid has been replaced by a thinner and lighter lid that is inserted flush into the piano rim. The lid is made of a lightweight high-tech honeycomb sandwich material.

The fall-board is also well matched to the sleek and elegant character of the instrument's flush surfaces. It has been fitted with a special mechanism for opening and closing to allow a flush fit. This in turn has led to a new design of the pianos' cheeks, whose radii and angles are reminiscent of the classical grand piano

The Sexy Kings of Groove

Lionstar Record’s newest fun, high energy band, The SEXY KINGS OF GROOVE were born, of all places, in a church!
One sunny Sunday afternoon, Band leader David Gunderloy was driving home from playing drums at church. He was reflecting on how during the musical portion of the church services the band would sometimes break down to just a drum and percussion groove and how well the congregation always responded to the solid, jamming rhythms being laid down by David and church percussionist, Will Fendon. In that moment, David was inspired to start a new band based on this positive energy. When he got to Lionstar Recording studio later that day a slew of new songs came flooding out!
The rest of the vision fell in to place just as quickly. David wanted to keep the group organic and capable of presenting the same solid, groovy sound live on stage as well as on recordings. He decided to make it a simple quartet; Guitar, bass, drums and percussion. Visually, David realized that he would be sitting down playing drums and singing and Will would be sitting down playing percussion. So, instead of having the guitar players jumping around on stage, David envisioned all four members sitting side by side across the stage, wearing identical suits, melded in to one grooving, jamming unit.
David realized the lyrics should be fun and if possible witty, to reflect the up tempo nature of the grooves and the effortless virtuosity of the musicians. The tongue-in-cheek moniker, THE SEXY KINGS OF GROOVE, was born out of this attitude.

He proposed the idea to his “A-List” studio session players, Tony Mandracchia on guitar and Garrett Sullivan on bass. They heard the fun energy of the songs and happily climbed on board the Sexy Kings train! Because Tony is right handed and Garrett left handed, some say the guitar necks pointing outwards on each end of the quartet give the impression of wings! The Sexy Kings like that analogy. But we ask, “Are they angel wings, eagle wings or turkey wings?" You decide!
